Understanding ABUSE AND TRAUMA

Are some things from your past too difficult to deal with or even think about? Or are you currently experiencing an abusive situation?

Symptoms that may be a sign you've been abused or traumatized:
  • Reoccurring intrusive distressing memories
  • Flashbacks
  • Triggered around certain people or places or even hearing something that is distressing to you but not others
  • Do you get lost in your thoughts?
  • Easily distracted
  • Never think you're good enough?
  • Foggy and not present?
  • Intense emotions
  • High Anxiety or Panic Attacks
  • Lack of motivation
  • Depressed mood
  • Inability to get close to others emotionally or physically
  • Reckless behavior choices
  • Does someone else think you should "get over it already"?
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Have you found yourself attempting to escape reality through drugs, alcohol, cutting, or even thoughts of suicide?

                                                           You're not alone!

Trauma is an event that leads to a level of intense fear, helplessness, or even horror, and it can take over your life.  Abuse is ultimately when someone else powers over your body or your mind and causes psychological affects similar to Trauma. The mind and body are affected, but what we fail to realize is it also affects our relationships with others.

It may be time to help yourself... here at EVOLVEwithin, we hold an incredibly high level of respect for those who have suffered trauma or abuse. We understand there is no one-answer-fits-all, but we are here to help moving you in the direction you would like to be in. Do this for you and your loved ones.

The clinic owner specializes in physical, sexual and emotional abuse (including harmful narcissistic relationships), do not hesitate to ask if we can assist in your healing. If we cannot help, we will point you in the right direction.

More examples include, but are not limited to: physical abuse, emotional abuse (including narcissistic-abuse from a parent, spouse, sibling, friend, or boss), sexual abuse, robbery, combat, disaster; witnessing an event such as death or injury, or even learning about an unexpected threat, death, or injury.

But I don't want to talk about it

Some people who have suffered trauma can't stop sharing; while others will never be able to share their story; and then there are those who fall somewhere in between. Everyone is different. Whichever individual you may be, that is respected here. You do not need to tell your story to get the help you are looking for.

I know it affects my life...
How can therapy help?

I'm sure you have noticed by now that you may have triggers to situations that remind you of your past. Those triggers affect your relationships with others. It causes you to hold it in and take on the burden yourself, but that is not healthy and we can help you and your loved ones to understand what is happening, and how to improve your current situation. If your trauma occurred in childhood, there may be additional coping skills we can develop together in order for you to continue to grow into the person you'd like to become. Continue down the path you want for yourself.

Help is a call away.
