What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?
A Marriage and Family Therapist is trained with a systemic approach to therapy. This allows the therapist to view every individual in context, taking into consideration the many systems to an individual’s life. These systems may include but are not limited to: family, friends, spouse or partner, school, work, community, social media, upbringing, self-talk, relationship history, etc. Something called a biopsychosocial assessment is completed during the intake process to gather information regarding an individual’s biology, psychology, and social history.
Marriage and Family Therapists understand that there is almost never a "one-size-fits-all" answer to a problem and incorporate this idea into their practice. We don't fix the surface of the problem by covering it up with a metaphorical Band-Aid; we work with you to dig deeper into every aspect of what makes you who you are and how it's all led you to this moment! With this insight, we have the utmost understanding of who you are and what your needs are. Thereafter, we together can safely process your difficulties, change undesired behaviors to others or yourself, along with provide you and your immediate relationships space for growth.
