What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?
A Marriage and Family Therapist is trained in a systemic approach. This allows the therapist to view all areas in which an issue may be sourced; taking into consideration the many systems in an individual’s life. These systems may include but are not limited to: family, friends, spousal, school, work, community, social media, etc. In addition, a biopsychosocial technique is utilized during the intake process to gather information regarding an individual’s biology, psychology, and social history. Marriage and Family Therapists understand that there is no one answer to a problem and incorporates this into their practice. To be blunt, we don't fix the surface of the problem by covering it up with a Band-Aid.
